This photo of my father and I on a roof top was taken in Beuna Vista, Colorado. The photo was taken while we were sweeping a chimney in our top hats and tails. I can remember the neighbors coming out to see the show as my dad belted out Chim Chim Cher-ee and other classic Mary Poppins songs.

Scan 1

I would like to take this occasion to acknowledge my dad for all he tought me. He set an example of how to work hard, to always go the extra mile, and to do what is right even when it is hard. The most valuable lessons had nothing to do with work. He showed me what a loving father and honorable husband looks like. For all these things, I thank you.

Love Nathan

This stone planter presented an interesting set of challenges. It needed to be crated. Fine. It weighs 132lb. Cool.   Here’s the catch– it needs to ship with FedEx Ground and they won’t accept  any package over 150lb. I do the math–18lb. I think I can make a crate for it that weighs less than 18lb. I confidently  tell the customer I’m in and that it will ship the next day.  So I get to work.

After cutting all of the wood pieces and before I assembled the crate, I decide to put the pieces on my scale just in case. Bad news– 33lb.Shipping Antique Stone Planter Fifteen pounds over. After looking online and finding that the difference in shipping prices would be the difference between earning a good day’s wage or spending a days wages to make up the difference to the customer, I walk back to the crate. Channeling Richard  Simmons, I let the crate know it’s time to get moving and slim down. Long story short: after taking my scale inside home depot and finding the lightest materials I could find to do the job, in the end the planter made it safely to the customer.

And a funny note, the customer found her cat and a litter of kittens in the garage nested in that comfy lightweight crate…..no, I made that part up.

I think I was in 6th grade when a great childhood friend of mine,  Mike Walker invited me to go to the Gart Brother’s Sports Castle. His mother worked at a travel agency that was located in the Castle and Mike told me we would get the backstage tour.

The age and stature of the building let you know that you were about to experience something special. It was Willy Wonka-esque.  Everywhere you looked, there was something cool even if you had no idea what it was. We walked by Bronco’s gear galore too his mom’s office where I had my first passport photo taken. I would not have an actual passport for 10 years or so but who cares, I was feeling like a big shot.

So with my head held high, I followed Mike to the ski equipment. I believe that is where I saw my first snowboard, which was cool. But what took my breath away was the indoor ski hill–a huge treadmill-like contraption you could ski on. There was a customer test-riding new skis making slow carving turns but staying stationary on the hill.

What stands out in my mind the most was when Mike had me follow him to the top floor and out a small door.  That’s when I saw  the greatest basketball court in all of Colorado.  Perched on top of the roof of the Sports Castle was a full sized basketball court. The view was intense. You could get right up to the edge of the building and look down at the hustle and bustle below or gaze far into the distance.  I would later swear to my friends that I could see my house from up there, but back to the matter at hand. We played horse until Mike’s mom told us it was time to go.

I guess all good things come to an end but I will never forget the day we were Kings of the Castle.

Shipping Artwork the Leonardo da Vinci bicycleWhen your job is to ship people’s treasures around the world, you get to see some interesting items.  This oak bicycle was made in the style of the Leonardo da Vinci bicycle sketch. There are questions as to whether the sketch was made by da Vinci around 1500, making him the inventor of the bicycle or if it was drawn in one of his sketch books at a much later date.Shipping Artwork the Leonardo da Vinci bicycle

What’s not up for debate is that this bike is one of the coolest human powered pieces of art that I have ever seen. This bike was sold buy Eron Johnson Antiques to a great lady named Suzanne. Its destination is Mackinac Island Michigan, a 3.8 square mile island that’s name means “big turtle” mackinac-island-71707_960_720in the language of

Much of Mackinac Island was designated a national park in 1875 and there has been a ban on motor vehicles since 1898. This bicycle will feel right at home on Mackinac. Biking is the most popular way to see its many amazing sights.

Its time…..

In the past I have worked for some of the finest shipping companies in Denver. Working for a great guy named Keith, I learned all about shipping fine art and antique furniture. We had more fun than should be allowed while collecting a paycheck.

At my last job, with Re-Steel, I got an education in shipping extreme loads. Did you know you could send an 8 foot by 20 foot crate that weights as much as two family cars by Next Day Air?     You can. Re-Steel plays a critical role in the manufacturing of the Boeing 787 and even NASA’s space shuttle fueling system.

But the biggest lesson I learned was to offer customers something they can’t find anywhere else.
That brings us to my new company, Packed With Care. We have structured everything we do to limit the risk of damaging what we are shipping. From the selection of materials we use, to the fact that we bring our workshop to your location. The best way is the only way we operate. The other core belief we have is that clear communication is the best tool we have to insure customer satisfaction. If you don’t know exactly how we will protect and transport your items, we haven’t done our job.

IMG_1720It is with these values in the forefront of our mind that we open our doors for business. We offer a wide range of services from packing your belongings for a local move to shipping art or motorcycles internationally. Please contact me to discuss your project.
